In September 2013 members of the North Wales Rugby Choir will cycle from Bangor to Pilkem, a journey of 600 miles, to commemorate Hedd Wyn. Hedd Wyn was a soldier and poet who was posthumously awarded the Chair of the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1917, the main poetry award. The empty bardic chair, draped in black, became one of Wales’ iconic images of the First World War.
The Choir will travel from Bangor to Trawsfynydd, the home of Hedd Wyn, before commencing though Wales, England and across to Europe, finishing at the grave of Hedd Wyn in Artillery Wood Cemetery, Pilkem near Langemark in Belgium.

The North Wales Rugby Choir is the official choir of the Welsh Memorial in Flanders Campaign. The Welsh Memorial in Flanders Campaign is seeking to erect a national memorial in Langemark to all Welsh soldiers who died during the First World War. The Choir’s journey will raise funds towards completing the memorial in 2014.
